It functions by simulating the anti angiogenic activity of the endogenous protein thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1). ABT-510 inhibits the effects of several important angiogenic growth factors on tumor neovascularization; These proangiogenic growth factors include vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), hepatocyte growth factor, and interleukin-8. ABT-510 is designed based on TSR and has shown anti angiogenic properties in the first phase clinical trial of newly diagnosed glioblastoma.
