Lipoic acid ((R)-(+)-α-Lipoic acid) is the nutritionally and therapeutically preferred form due to its "vitamin-like" role in metabolism. Only the Lipoic acid ((R)-(+)-α-Lipoic acid) exists in nature and is an essential cofactor of four mitochondrial enzyme complexes.
