First Aid Measures

Ingestion
Do NOT induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.
Inhalation
Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
Skin
Get medical aid. Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse.
Eyes
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.

Handling and Storage

Storage
Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances.
Handling
Wash thoroughly after handling. Use only in a well ventilated area. Ground and bond containers when transferring material. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Empty containers retain product residue, (liquid and/or vapor), and can be dangerous. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose empty containers to heat, sparks or open flames.

Hazards Identification

Inhalation
May cause respiratory tract irritation. May cause liver and kidney damage. May cause drowsiness, unconsciousness, and central nervous system depression.
Skin
Causes irritation with burning pain, itching, and redness.
Eyes
Contact produces irritation, tearing, and burning pain. Vapors cause eye irritation.
Ingestion
Harmful if swallowed. May cause central nervous system depression, kidney damage, and liver damage.
Hazards
Poisonous gases are produced in fire

Exposure Controls/Personal Protection

Personal Protection
Eyes: Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical safety goggles as described by OSHA's eye and face protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European Standard EN166. Skin: Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure. Clothing: Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.
Respirators
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Always use a NIOSH or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator when necessary.
Exposure Effects
Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause adverse reproductive effects. May cause liver and kidney damage. May cause fetal effects.
Exposure limit(s)
NIOSH REL: C 50 ppm (300 mg/m3) OSHA PEL: C 50 ppm (300 mg/m3) IDLH 200 ppm
Poison Class

Fire Fighting Measures

Flash Point
66
Autoignition
640
Fire Fighting
Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Combustion generates toxic fumes. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. To extinguish fire, use water fog, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or regular foam. Use agent most appropriate to extinguish fire. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out.
Upper exp. limit
12
Lower exp. limit
2.2
Fire Potential
Slight; moderate when exposed to heat or flame.

Accidental Release Measures

Small spills/leaks
Absorb spill with inert material, (e.g., dry sand or earth), then place into a chemical waste container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to waterways. Clean up spills immediately, using the appropriate protective equipment. Remove all sources of ignition. Use a spark-proof tool. Provide ventilation.

Stability and Reactivity

Disposal Code
2
Stability
Stable at room temperature in closed containers under normal storage and handling conditions.
Incompatibilities
Strong oxidizing agents, acids, aluminum.
Decomposition
Hydrogen chloride, chlorine, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide.
Combustion Products
Poisonous vapors including hydrogen chloride gas, chlorocarbons, chlorine
