First Aid Measures

Ingestion
If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Get medical aid immediately.
Ingestion
May cause irritation of the digestive tract. Low hazard for usual industrial handling.
Inhalation
May cause respiratory tract irritation. Inhalation of fumes may cause metal fume fever, which is characterized by flu-like symptoms with metallic taste, fever, chills, cough, weakness, chest pain, muscle pain and increased white blood cell count.
Inhalation
Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.
Skin
Get medical aid. Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Skin
Dust may cause mechanical irritation. Particles embedded in the skin may cause chemical gas gangrene with symptoms of persistent lesions, inflammation and gas bubbles under the skin.
Eyes
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.
Eyes
Dust may cause mechanical irritation.

Handling and Storage

Storage
Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances.
Handling
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Ground and bond containers when transferring material. Use spark-proof tools and explosion proof equipment. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Empty containers retain product residue, (liquid and/or vapor), and can be dangerous. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose empty containers to heat, sparks or open flames.

Hazards Identification

Inhalation
May cause respiratory tract irritation. Inhalation of fumes may cause metal fume fever, which is characterized by flu-like symptoms with metallic taste, fever, chills, cough, weakness, chest pain, muscle pain and increased white blood cell count.
Skin
Dust may cause mechanical irritation. Particles embedded in the skin may cause chemical gas gangrene with symptoms of persistent lesions, inflammation and gas bubbles under the skin.
Eyes
Dust may cause mechanical irritation.
Ingestion
May cause irritation of the digestive tract. Low hazard for usual industrial handling.
Hazards
Forms dense white smoke. Flame is very bright.

Exposure Controls/Personal Protection

Personal Protection
Eyes: Wear chemical goggles and face shield. Skin: Wear impervious gloves. Clothing: Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.
Respirators
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Always use a NIOSH or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator when necessary.
Exposure Effects
Lethargy, hyporeflexia, weakness, and subjective feeling of thirst and heat may occur. Excessive absorption of magnesium from cathartics may result in CNS depression and seizures, most notably in renal failure patients.
Poison Class
4

Fire Fighting Measures

Flash Point
500
Autoignition
472
Fire Fighting
Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Flammable solid. May react with acids or moisture to form explosive hydrogen gas. Extinguishing media: Use only graphite powder, soda ash, powdered sodium chloride, or an appropriate metal-fire-extinguishing dry powder. Do NOT use water, carbon dioxide, or foam.
Fire Potential
Flammable_combustion requires preheating. Moderate hazard.

Accidental Release Measures

Small spills/leaks
Scoop up with a nonsparking tool, then place into a suitable container for disposal. Remove all sources of ignition.

Stability and Reactivity

Incompatibilities
Oxygen, moisture, chlorinated solvents, methanol, hydrogen peroxide, oxidizing agents, sulfur compounds, metal oxides, metal cyanides, metal oxide salts, fluorine, carbonates, halogens, phosphates.
Stability
Stable under normal temperatures and pressures.
Decomposition
Oxides of magnesium.
Combustion Products
Dangerous; when heated, burns rapidly in air and emits fumes...
