First Aid Measures

Ingestion
Seek medical attention. If individual is drowsy or unconscious, do not give anything by mouth; place individual on the left side with the head down. Contact a physician, medical facility, or poison control center for advice about whether to induce vomiting. If possible, do not leave individual unattended.
Inhalation
If fumes or combustion products are inhaled, remove to fresh air. Lay victim down and keep warm and rested. If breathing is shallow, or has stopped, ensure clear airway and apply resuscitation. Transport to a hospital or doctor immediately.
Skin
If this product comes into contact with skin, wash skin with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and footwear. Ensure contaminated clothing is thoroughly washed before using again. Transport to hospital or doctor if symptoms develop.
Eyes
If this product comes into contact with eyes, hold eyes open and wash continuously for 15 minutes with running water. Ensure irrigation under eyelids by occasionally lifting eyelids. Do not attempt to remove contact lenses unless trained. Transport to a hospital or doctor immediately.

Handling and Storage

Storage
Keep well closed.
Handling
Containers of this material may be hazardous when emptied. Since emptied containers retain product residues (vapor, liquid, and/or solid), all hazard precautions given in the data sheet must be observed.

Hazards Identification

Inhalation
Causes irritation of nose and throat. Ingestion can cause irritation or corrosion of the alimentary tract. Contact with eyes or skin causes irritation.
Skin
May cause mild skin irritation. Prolonged or repeated contact may dry the skin. Symptoms may include redness, burning, drying and cracking of skin, and skin burns. Zinc sulfate may cause ulcers upon contact with skin.
Eyes
May cause mild eye irritation. Symptoms include stinging, tearing, and redness.
Ingestion
Swallowing small amounts of this material during normal handling is not likely to cause harmful effects. Swallowing large amounts may be harmful.
Hazards
Some may burn but none ignite readily. May polymerize explosively when heated or involved in a fire. Containers may explode when heated. Some may be transported hot.

Exposure Controls/Personal Protection

Personal Protection
Rubber gloves should be worn. Use of goggles is advised. Clean overalls should be worn, preferably with an apron. All skin areas should be covered. Wearing safety boots would be advisable. Wash hands and face thoroughly after handling and before work breaks, eating, drinking, smoking and using toilet facilities.
Respirators
A face mask is advised when this material is being used.
Exposure Effects
Symptoms of exposure to this material through breathing, swallowing, and/or passage of the material through the skin may include: stomach or intestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) irritation (nose, throat, airways).

Fire Fighting Measures

Fire Fighting
Extinguish fire using agent suitable for type of surrounding fire. Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus with a full facepiece operated in the positive pressure demand mode with appropriate turn-out gear and chemical resistant personal protective equipment.

Accidental Release Measures

Small spills/leaks
Keep material out of water sources and sewers. Build dikes to contain flow as necessary. Land spill: Dig a pit, pond, lagoon, holding area to contain liquid or solid material. Cover solids with a plastic sheet to prevent dissolving in rain or fire fighting water. Water spill: Neutralize with agricultural lime (CaO), crushed limestone (CaCO3), or sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3). Add soda ash (Na2CO3). Adjust pH to neutral (pH=7). Use mechanical dredges or lifts to remove immobilized masses of pollutants and precipitates.

Stability and Reactivity

Incompatibilities
Reacts as acid to neutralize bases.
Stability
Stable.
Decomposition
Oxides of zinc and sulfur.
