White willow (Latin name: Salix alba L.) belongs to the deciduous tree of Salicaceae. Native to Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai, and other regions, it is cultivated throughout China, predominantly in the Yangtze River Basin and various parts of South China. The leaves, buds, roots, and bark of the white willow are utilized for medicinal purposes, while dried white willow bark is used in cosmetics.
Salicin, a pure natural active substance, is extracted from the branches or bark of Salix babylonica L., a plant of the Salicaceae family, utilizing modern extraction technology. Known for its antipyretic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-rheumatic properties, salicin also imparts a bitter taste that aids in stomach strengthening and local anesthesia. Historically utilized in the treatment of rheumatism, it has been supplanted by alternative medications.
