Potassium ferrocyanide, commonly known as yellow blood salt, is a coordination compound with the formula K4[Fe(CN)6]·3H2O. It is a lemon yellow monoclinic crystal at room temperature and decomposes at boiling point. It is insoluble in ethanol, but has a solubility of up to 300g/L in water. Potassium ferricyanide solution reacts with acid to produce highly toxic hydrogen cyanide (HCN) gas, but potassium ferricyanide has low self-toxicity. Potassium ferrocyanide is decomposed by heating to produce potassium cyanide, which reacts with ferric ions to form the pigment Prussian blue. It should be noted that potassium ferrocyanide is a food additive approved for use in the European Union (in the category of anti-caking agents), and the maximum allowable amount specified in Directive 95/2/EC is 20mg/kg (based on anhydrous potassium ferrocyanide).

Usage
1. Add salt as an anti-caking agent. In foreign wine production, it is mainly used as iron removal agent. Because the cyanide ion in potassium ferrocyanide binds to iron very tightly, the toxicity is extremely low. China's regulations can be used for table salt, the maximum amount of 0.01g/kg(to ferrous cyanide root).
2. Used in the manufacture of pigments, printing and dyeing oxidation auxiliaries, coatings, ink, red blood salt potassium, explosives and chemical reagents, also used in steel heat treatment, lithography, engraving and pharmaceutical industry. Its food grade products are mainly used as anti-caking agents for salt or feed.
