Tetrahydroxy diboron is mainly used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates in Suzuki coupling. The earliest synthesis of tetrahydroxy diboron can be traced back to 1955. Wartik produced diboron tetrachloride by inserting zinc electrode into liquid boron trichloride. Then, diboron tetrachloride reacted with water to first generate tetrahydroxy diboron, and then heated to 220℃ and dehydrated to produce (BO)X. Chemicalbook1961 McCloskey was used at 0℃ to add quantitative hydrochloric acid drops to a mixture of four (dimethylamine) biboron and water to produce tetrahydroxy diboron with a yield of 56%. In the following nearly 50 years, almost no open method was reported in the literature until 2012, when Molander again mentioned the synthesis of tetrahydroxy diboron by the latter method.
