Tert-butylHydroperoxide, or TBHP for short, is one of the most commonly used alkyl hydrogen organic peroxides. Commodity is generally light yellow transparent non-volatile liquid, slightly soluble in water, and organic solvents. The butyl hydrogen peroxide is mainly used as the initiator of free radical reaction or polymerization reaction in industry. Compared with most other initiators, the decomposition products are acidic. The decomposition products of TBHP are tert-butanol (TBA) and a small amount of acetone Chemicalbook. The low decomposition and activation energy of O-O bond in tert-butylhydrogen peroxide can be used as an improver to improve the cetane number of diesel oil. Tert-butylhydrogen peroxide is a very important intermediate in organic synthesis. It is an important crosslinking agent used in unsaturated polyester crosslinking at medium and high temperature. Under the action of metal catalyst, TBHP can also be used as oxygen supplier to selectively oxidize unsaturated hydrocarbons such as acetals, allyl alcohol-type compounds and unsaturated hydrocarbons.
