What is Streptozotocin?
Streptozotocin is a natural compound produced by Streptococcus and is particularly toxic to insulin-producing islet B cells in the pancreas of mammals. It is a nitrosourea antibiotic.
STZ can form isocyanates in the body. Thereby, it binds to the nucleic acid protein, inhibits the activity of the DNA polymerase, and makes the damaged DNA difficult to repair. |
Application & Function
1. Treatment of islet cell tumors (β-cell or non-β-cell carcinoma).
2. It has a certain effect on carcinoid tumors, Hodgkin's disease, colon cancer and liver cancer.
