Name | Sesamin |
Description | Sesamin is a selective delta 5 desaturase inhibitor in the biosynthesis of polyunsaturated fatty acids and is a lignan abundantly present in sesame oil. It has potent neuroprotective effects against cerebral ischemia. |
In vitro | In mice, the LD50 of orally administered sesamin is 3800 mg/kg; in rats, the LD50 is 6150 mg/kg. |
In vivo | Sesamin significantly enhances the activity of liver enzymes involved in fatty acid oxidation, such as Acyl-CoA dehydrogenase, Acyl-CoA oxidase, 3-Hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase, Enoyl-CoA hydratase, and 3-Ketoacyl-CoA thiolase, as well as the activities of 2,4-Dienoyl-CoA reductase and Δ3,Δ2-Enoyl-CoA isomerase. |
Storage | store at low temperature | Powder: -20°C for 3 years | In solvent: -80°C for 1 year | Shipping with blue ice. |
Solubility Information | Ethanol : < 1 mg/mL (insoluble or slightly soluble) DMSO : 6.88 mg/mL (19.4 mM), Sonication is recommended. H2O : < 1 mg/mL (insoluble or slightly soluble)
