S-acetyl-L-glutathione is a glutathione mimetic that acts like a prodrug to increase intracellular glutathione. It can be used to replenish the prototypic glutathione that occurs during HIV infection. However, it was found to selectively induce human-derived glutathione by depleting rather than increasing intracellular glutathione levels in Daudi, Raji, and Jurkat cells.
