Use and synthesis of procaine penicillin
intro
Procaine penicillin is the procaine salt of penicillin, the product is a long-acting preparation of penicillin, and the blood concentration is maintained for more than 48 hours. It is not acid-resistant, can not be taken orally, can only be injected intramuscular, and intravenous administration is prohibited.
Function and use
Procaine penicillin is used for chronic infections caused by penicillin-sensitive pathogens, such as uterine abscess, fractures, mastitis, etc. It is also used for actinomyces and leptospira infections. Similar to penicillin, this product is slowly released and absorbed locally after intramuscular injection. The effect is longer than that of penicillin, but the effective concentration in the blood is low, and it is limited to chronic infection caused by pathogenic Chemicalbook bacteria that are highly sensitive to penicillin, and should not be used to treat serious infections. In order to increase the blood concentration in a relatively short time, it can be mixed with penicillin sodium (potassium) to make an injection to take into account both long-term and rapid effect.
Antibacterial spectrum
Penicillin is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic, mainly against a variety of gram-positive bacteria and a few gram-negative bacteria. The main sensitive bacteria are staphylococcus, streptococcus, swine erysipelas, corynebacterium, clostridium tetanus, actinomyces, Bacillus anthracis, spirochete and so on. It is not sensitive to mycobacterium, mycoplasma, chlamydia, Rickettsia, Nocardia, fungi and viruses. It is limited to pathogens that are highly sensitive to penicillin and should not be used to treat serious infections.
