Polyamide
Polyamide (abbreviated as PA), also commonly known as nylon, is a general term for thermoplastic resins that contain repeating amide groups in the main molecular chain. It encompasses aliphatic PA, aliphatic-aromatic PA, and aromatic PA. There is a wide variety of polyamide types, including PA6, PA66, PA11, PA12, PA46, PA610, PA612, PA1010, PA6T, and specialty nylons.
Properties
PA boasts excellent comprehensive properties, including good mechanical performance, heat resistance, wear resistance, chemical resistance, self-lubricity, and a low friction coefficient. It also has a certain degree of flame retardancy and is easy to process. It is suitable for being reinforced and modified by filling with glass fibers and other fillers to enhance its performance and expand its range of applications.
Mechanical Properties
Polyamide is a typical hard and tough polymer. It exhibits good tensile strength, compressive strength, impact strength, and wear resistance.
Electrical Properties
Due to the strong polarity of the amide groups in the polyamide molecular chain, its electrical insulation is good under low-temperature and dry conditions.
Flame Retardancy
Most polyamides are self-extinguishing. Even when they burn, the flame spreads very slowly.
Chemical Properties
Because of its high cohesive energy and crystallinity, polyamide is stable against the action of most chemical reagents. In particular, it has strong resistance to oils such as gasoline and lubricating oil, demonstrating excellent oil resistance.
