Omadacycline Tosylate NEW

This medication is a new tetracycline antibiotic derived from structural modifications of minocycline, designed to overcome bacterial resistance to existing tetracyclines and enhance broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.

Indications: The drug is indicated for the treatment of community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) and acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI).

Advantages: The drug is available in both intravenous and oral formulations, with an oral bioavailability of 34.5%. It has a 20% protein binding rate and a half-life of 15.5 to 16.8 hours. In contrast, tigecycline has a protein binding rate of 71-89% and a half-life that is 42% longer, and it does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier, with a penetration rate of 0. Pharmacokinetic (PK) studies and clinical pharmacology demonstrate that the pharmacokinetics of tobramycin sulfate is not affected by patient factors such as age, gender, or liver or kidney function. After entering the body, it is not metabolized but is excreted in feces, hence no dose adjustment is needed for the respective patients. In contrast, dose reduction of tigecycline is required for patients with a Child-Pugh score of class C.
