Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is a PG synthase inhibitor. It can inhibit prostate synthase and has significant analgesic and antipyretic effects. It is absorbed rapidly orally and reaches its peak plasma concentration 2-4 hours after a single dose. More than 99% of the drug binds to plasma proteins in the blood, with a t1/2 of 13-14 hours. About 95% of the drug is excreted in its original form and metabolites in the urine. Clinically used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, arthritis, and tenosynovitis. It can also be used to relieve pain caused by musculoskeletal sprains, contusions, injuries, and dysmenorrhea.
