A 16-membered ring macrolide antibiotic with antimicrobial activity against a wide range of pathogens. Particularly used in the treatment of Mycoplasma infection.
Josamycin, also known as "kersenomycin", is a macrolide antibiotic. Lucamycin is a white or yellowish white crystalline powder, odorless, bitter taste, highly soluble in ethanol, ether or chloroform, very slightly soluble in water. The antibiotic is synthesized by a strain of Streptomyces narpis, and its antibacterial profile and antibacterial action are similar to erythromycin. Doxamycin is now sold and used in many countries.
