Dalbavancin, also known as docomycin, is a novel semi-synthetic glycopeptic antibiotic, a derivative of the Teicoranin analogue A40926, discovered, developed and entered clinical trials by VicuronPharmaceuticals, which was later acquired by Pfizer. With the same mechanism of action as vancomycin and Teicoplanin, Darbavavacin inhibits cell wall biosynthesis of G+ bacteria and is widely used as a drug to treat skin and soft tissue infections. In vivo and in vitro experiments showed that Darbarvaxin has antibacterial activity against G+ bacteria including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), methicillin-sensitive staphylococcus aureus (MSSA), coagulase negative staphylococcus (CoNS), streptococcus, etc. It is active against G+ resistant pathogens including penicillin - and ceftriaxone resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae, Teicoranin insensitive CoNS, and non-VANA enterococcus. It is also active against G+ anaerobic bacteria. Dabavacin has unique pharmacokinetic properties and can be administered at weekly intervals. At present, Dabavacin has achieved good results in the treatment of catheter-associated blood-borne infections and skin and soft tissue infections. It has excellent antibacterial activity and safety in vivo, and is an ideal second-generation glycopeptide antibiotic.
