Clinical application
As an insoluble local anesthetic, benzocaine can relieve pain and itching. It is clinically used in wound anesthesia, ulcerative surface anesthesia, mucosal surface anesthesia and hemorrhoid anesthesia. Its pharmacological effect is mainly to block nerve endings to relieve pain and itching.
Pharmacological action
The local anesthetic effect of benzocaine is weaker than that of procaine, can not be infiltrated, and local absorption is slow and lasting. Hydrolyzed to p-aminobenzoic acid, non-irritating and toxic at the normal use concentration of 2% to 10%, the toxicity is only equivalent to 5% or 10% of cocaine, the maximum safe amount of local use is 5g or 20% solution 25mL. Inhibits the conduction of nerve impulses from the sensory nerve endings, dulling the taste, similar in structure to procaine, so that it is slowly absorbed and has a long-lasting anesthetic effect.
Application:
1 It is a local anesthetic for the pain relief of wounds, ulcers and hemorrhoids. It is also an intermediate for cough relief.
2 It is used for ultraviolet absorption in cosmetics, local anesthetic, and pain relief for wounds, ulcers and hemorrhoids.
