Molecular Formula: C20H25ClN2O5
Molecular Weight: 408.89 g/mol
Appearance: White crystalline powder
Description:Amlodipine Besilate is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. It selectively inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into arterial smooth muscle cells and, to a lesser degree, myocardial cells. This results in the dilation of coronary and systemic arteries, reducing peripheral vascular resistance and consequently lowering blood pressure.
Mechanism of Action:It works by blocking the calcium channels in the heart and blood vessel walls, which reduces the heart's workload and helps the heart to beat more efficiently. This leads to a decrease in blood pressure and may relieve symptoms of angina.
Pharmacological Properties:
Antihypertensive: Effective in lowering blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
Angina Relief: Helps to alleviate the symptoms of angina by reducing the heart's oxygen demand.
Rhythm Regulation: May be used to treat certain heart rhythm disorders.
Clinical Uses:
Hypertension: As monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
Angina Pectoris: For the symptomatic treatment of chronic stable angina and variant angina.
Heart Rhythm Disorders: In certain cases, it may be used to regulate heart rhythm.
