4-Butylresorcinol is a highly effective skin brightening agent with the following effects:
1. 4-Butylresorcinol strongly inhibits tyrosinase and peroxidase;
2. 4-Butylresorcinol is an effective skin whitening agent and skin tone corrector for normal skin;
3. 4-Butylresorcinol is an effective whitening agent for pigmented skin; 4. 4-Butylresorcinol effectively combats melasma (excessive pigmentation in sun-exposed skin);
5. 4-Butylresorcinol provides potent protection against H₂O₂-induced DNA damage;
6. 4-Butylresorcinol has demonstrated anti-glycation effects.
During the three stages of melanin synthesis, 4-butylresorcinol not only significantly inhibits tyrosinase activity but also exhibits synergistic whitening effects throughout the process.
1. Prior to melanin synthesis: Interferes with tyrosinase synthesis and glycation, preventing enzyme uptake by melanosomes.
2. During melanin synthesis: Inhibits enzyme activity as a competitive inhibitor of both tyrosinase and TRP1, reducing formation of byproducts that promote melanogenesis.
3. After melanin synthesis, it enhances tyrosinase degradation, inhibits transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes, and exhibits photopeeling effects due to fatty acids. This function is amplified by fatty acid presence and regulates tyrosinase degradation.
