3',4'-Dimethoxyflavone is a toxic compound that has been shown to have potent cytotoxic, anti-proliferative, and anti-angiogenic effects in vitro. It was found to be toxic in an animal model for drug toxicity. 3',4'-Dimethoxyflavone also exhibited neuroprotective properties by suppressing neuronal death in the hippocampus of rats with cerebral ischemia. This compound has been shown to bind to human liver and liver cells and may cause hepatotoxicity. 3',4'-Dimethoxyflavone inhibits cytochrome P450 activity in vivo, which may lead to neurologic disorders.
