The main use of trifluoroethanol is as an anesthetic. The earliest use of fluoroacetylene ether synthesized from trifluoroethanol and acetylene was to replace bromofluoroalkanes with greater side effects as anesthetics. Then, non-flammable, low-toxic isofluranes and high-performance new anesthetic dechlorofluoroalkanes were developed using trichloroethanol as a raw material.
