2-Bromoethanol is an widely used intermediate in organic synthesis.
Production method
Obtained by the reaction of ethylene oxide with hydrogen bromide: at 0-20℃, ethylene oxide is passed into 46%-48% hydrobromic acid solution, and after passing, the reaction is 1-2h. At about 10℃, the hydrobromic acid was neutralized with sodium carbonate, and 2-bromoethanol was extracted with ethyl ether. The ether solution was dried overnight with anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the desiccant was filtered out. The crude product was obtained after recovering the ether. The finished product is obtained by decompression fractionation.
