Uses:
Mainly used in electroplating industry, as the main raw material for electroplating nickel and chemical nickel, but also the main raw material for the production of other nickel salts (such as nickel oxide, nickel ammonium sulfate, nickel carbonate, etc.). Printing and dyeing industry is used to produce phthalocyanine brilliant blue complexing agent, can be used as a mordant of VAT dyes. The pharmaceutical industry is used to produce catalysts for oxidation reactions in vitamin C. In the production of hardened oil, it is a catalyst for the hydrogenation of grease. In addition, it is also used to make nickel-cadmium batteries and production of cemented carbide.
Production method:
Metal nickel method adds water to the reactor, then adds sulfuric acid to form 30° Be, then adds metal nickel, and fractions of nitric acid to react. When the reaction concentration reaches 48 ~ 50° Be, the crystallization and filtration are carried out, the crude crystals are washed with water and dissolved into 30° Be, then barium carbonate is added to neutralize the free acid, and hydrogen peroxide is added to oxidize the bivalent iron, and hydrolysis occurs. After the purification solution is clarified, a small amount of sulfuric acid is added to adjust pH3 ~ 4, and then concentrated and crystallized, centrifuge and dehydrate to obtain nickel sulfate. Nickel sulfate can be obtained by purifying, crystallizing and dewatering the electrolytic waste liquid in the copper smelting process of 3Ni+8HNO3→3Ni(NO3)2+2NO↑+4H2ONi(NO3)2+H2SO4→NiSO4+2HNO3.
Nickel sulfate is prepared from nickel containing waste liquid of cobalt production. Nickel carbonate was precipitated from waste nickel sulfate solution produced by cobalt salt with soda ash solution, and then nickel carbonate was dissolved in sulfuric acid to obtain nickel sulfate.
