Clorcasserine is a prescription drug used to help obese or overweight adults with weight-related medical problems lose weight and prevent weight regain. Clocasserin must be used with a low-calorie diet and exercise plan.
Description of clocasserin:
1 Lorcaserin has long been used for weight loss in obese people.
2 clocasserine is a prescription drug used to help obese or overweight adults with weight-related medical problems lose weight and prevent weight regain. Clocasserin must be used with a low-calorie diet and exercise plan.
3 Lorcaserin, currently sold under the trade name Belviq, was previously Lorqess during development and is a weight loss drug developed by Arena Pharmaceuticals. It has serotonergic properties and acts as an anorexia drug.
4 Lorcaserin is a selective 5-HT2C receptor agonist that has been demonstrated in vitro to be superior to other related targets. The 5-HT2C receptor is located almost exclusively in the brain and can be found in the choroid plexus, cortex, hippocampus, cerebellum, amygdala, thalamus, and hypothalamus. Activation of 5-HT2C receptors in the hypothalamus is thought to activate the production of proomeliptin (POMC), which promotes weight loss through satiety. This hypothesis is supported by clinical trials and other studies.
Usage and dosage of chlorcacserin:
Clocasserin may be used as an adjunct therapy to a low-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in obese adults (BMI 30 kg/m2 or higher) or overweight patients (BMI 27 kg/m2 or higher). At least one weight-related complication, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, or dyslipidemia.
The recommended dose is 10 mg twice daily, orally with or without food. If patients do not lose 5% of their body weight by week 12, they should stop taking clocasserin, as they are unlikely to achieve any weight loss with the drug.
Clocasserin can be used in patients with mild to moderate liver function impairment without adjustment of dose; However, caution is recommended in patients with severe liver impairment as the effect in this population has not been studied. Although clocasserin may be used in patients with mild renal impairment, caution is recommended in patients with moderate renal impairment. Clocacserin is not recommended in patients with severe renal impairment or end-stage renal failure.
Clocasserin is contraindicated in pregnant women and is listed as a class X drug in pregnancy. Found no known benefit for pregnant women because it can promote weight loss. There is no data to support its use in nursing mothers.
