Its molecular formula is C₁₄H₂₄N₆O₄Cu, with a molecular weight of approximately 403.9 g/mol, and CAS number 89030-95-5.
It appears as a light blue to royal blue crystalline powder with a bright blue aqueous solution — the distinctive color comes from the copper ion's d-d electron transition. GHK-Cu was first isolated from human plasma in 1973 by Dr. Loren Pickart and is naturally present in human blood, saliva, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid.
It is classified as an endogenous signaling peptide — a "repair messenger" naturally found in the body that helps coordinate tissue regeneration.
