Isoniazid is a colorless crystal or white crystalline powder, slightly bitter, stable in nature, and easily soluble in water. The hydrazine group in isoniazid has strong reducibility. It can be reduced to hydrogen peroxide by both dissolved oxygen and water in alkaline conditions, but at a slower rate.
Pharmacological effects:
Isoniazid has a strong bacteriostatic to bactericidal effect on Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and also acts on the bacilli within the cell; it is less toxic, easy to absorb, and has strong penetrability. It is used for various types of tuberculosis; it is easy to produce drug resistance when used alone. Combine with p-aminosalicylate or streptomycin.
