Chemical nature
White or light yellow granules or powder. Melting point 269-274°C. Easily soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol or ether. The exposed air gradually absorbs carbon dioxide gas and decomposes or theophylline. Slightly smelly, bitter taste.
The use is the same as theophylline. The presence of ethylenediamine in the molecule enhances the expansion of bronchial and coronary blood vessels.
Uses: It is mainly used for bronchial asthma and asthma-type chronic bronchitis. It can also be used for non-selective phosphatase inhibitors (PDE) and anti-epileptic drugs for acute cardiac insufficiency, cardiac asthma and biliary colic.
