THF (tetrahydrofuran) a colorless organic liquid that is miscible with water and has a small viscosity at room temperature and pressure. The chemical formula for this circular ether is written as (CH2)4O. Because of its long liquid range, it is a common medium polar aprotic solvent. Its main use is as a polymer precursor. Although THF is similar in odor and chemistry to diethyl ether, the anesthetic effect is poor.

Tetrahydrofuran is a kind of important organic synthetic raw material and solvent, tetrahydrofuran for many organic compounds have good solubility, it can dissolve all except polyethylene, polypropylene and fluorine resin organic compound, especially for polyvinyl chloride (PVC), poly (vinylidene chloride and butyl aniline have good solution, is widely used as reaction solvent. As a common solvent, tetrahydrofuran has been widely used in surface coatings, protective coatings, inks, extractants and artificial leather surface treatment. Tetrahydrofuran is an important raw material for the production of polytetramethylene ether diol (PTMEEG) and is also a major solvent in the pharmaceutical industry. Used as a solvent for natural and synthetic resins (especially vinyl resins), and also for the production of butadiene, adiponitrile, adipic acid, adiamine, etc. Used as solvent, intermediate in chemical synthesis and analytical reagent.
