1,2-dichloroethylene is a kind of chemical substance, colorless and slightly pungent volatile liquid. It is mainly used as extractant, refrigerant and solvent. It is flammable. Its vapor and air can form explosive mixture. In case of open fire and high heat, it can cause combustion and explosion. It is heated and decomposed in the air to release highly toxic phosgene and hydrogen chloride gas. It can react strongly with oxidants. With copper and its alloys, it is possible to form explosive chloroacetylene. Its vapor is heavier than air and can diffuse to a considerable distance at a lower place. It will ignite in case of open fire.
