This electrophilic resin is used for the attachment of amines alcohols, sulfamates, thiols and phenols using the Fmoc strategy. This resin is an intermediate between the Merrifield resin and the trityl chloride resin in term of acid lability. The carbocation formed during the cleavage reaction is more stable than Merrifield resin but less stable than the trityl chloride resins. The substituents on the benzhydryl chloride can be chosen in order to obtain a less acid labile resin (2-chloro) or a more acid labile resin (4-Methyl) than the benzhydryl chloride resin.
