C16 Ceramide-?d7 is used as an internal standard in the spectrometric diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases and complications.
Biological Activity
C16 Ceramide plays a vital role in apoptotic signaling. Examining the levels of the ceramides (Cer) d18:1/16:0, Cer d18:1/18:0, Cer d18:1/24:0, and Cer d18:1/24:1 and ratios in human plasma facilitates the prognosis of fatal outcome of coronary artery disease. A newly described and validated liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry methodology uses C16 Ceramide (d18:1/16:0) in a stable isotope form for their clinical-scaled measurement.
