This steroidal alkaloid is present in the bulbs of Korolkowia sewerzowii. It forms
a series of crystalline salts, e.g. the hydrochloride, m.p. 326°C; hydrobromide,
m.p. 315°C; hydriodide, m.p. 306°C and the methiodide, m.p. 312°C. The 0,0-
diacetate has m.p. 200-l oC. When treated with aluminium in phenol and Me2 CO
at 100°C for 4 hours, the alkaloid yields korseveridinone, m.p. 123-4°C. The
positions of all the functional groups have been ascertained by NMR and mass
spectroscopy.
