Flash chromatography is useful for rapid, preparative separations with moderate resolutions. As first described in J. Org. Chem., 43, 2923 (1978), it is commonly performed with silica gel although the use of reversed phase packings has become popular in recent years. For use at <20 psig (1.4 kg/cm2).
