STE20 like kinase (SLK) is a 1204 amino acid serine/threonine kinase. It possesses a kinase domain located at the amino-terminal and a C-terminal regulatory domain with coiled-coils. SLK is group V germinal center kinase that is expressed in the nucleus, cytosol, microtubules and centrosomes. The SLK gene is localized on human chromosome 10q24.33.
STE20 like kinase (SLK) is a modulator of cell motility. It phosphorylates cytoskeleton-bound proteins, which take part in the remodeling of migratory cell architecture. SLK is also involved in mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways. It acts as an activator of Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and transactivates tumor suppressor p53.
