Benzoin Sumatra resinoid is obtained by solvent extraction of the resin from
Styrax benzoin Dryand., a tree growing predominantly on the island of Sumatra.
Benzoin Sumatra resinoid is a dark brown, viscous liquid with a warm,
powdery, sweet, balsamic odor. Its main volatile, odor-determining components
are derivatives of benzoic and cinnamic acids and vanillin.
Benzoin Sumatra resinoid is used in perfumery, mainly as a fixative with a
warm, balsamic note.
Extractives and their physically modified derivatives such as tinctures, concretes, absolutes, essential oils, oleoresins, terpenes, terpene-free fractions, distillates, residues, etc., obtained from Styrax benzoin, Styracaccae.
