Cesium dibromoiodide is a glistening red crystals, stable in air. Melt at 243 to 248°C in a sealed tube, evolving labile halogen at 320°C. More stable than KIBr2.
Preparation
A solution of 21.3 g of CsBr in 213 ml of water is prepared and treated with 12.7 g of I2 and 8 g of Br2 . On cooling, CsIBr2 crystallizes out.
