3-Trimethylsilyl-3-buten-2-one is a methyl vinyl ketone homolog useful as a Michael acceptor in
annulation reactions, γ,δ-unsaturated ketone formation, Diene Adduct, and
Peterson condensations; precursor to a stabilized Diels–Alder diene.
Preparation
3-Trimethylsilyl-3-buten-2-one is prepared by the reaction of (1-bromovinyl)
trimethylsilane with acetaldehyde. An alternative
synthesis from acrolein has been published.
storage
3-Trimethylsilyl-3-buten-2-one shows no tendency to deteriorate when stored under an argon atmosphere at -20 °C.
