Blue powder or granule. It is freeze-dried by introducing polycyclic chromophores on dextran T2000 (average relative molecular mass 2000000). Easily soluble in water and dielectric aqueous solution, but slowly dissolve only after boiling. Like other polysaccharides, Lancet dextran solutions are susceptible to biological degradation in storage and should be protected from bacterial growth.
Blue Dextran has been used as a single-phase fluid dye in the mass flow capability of hollow microneedle (HMN). It has also been used as a standard in gel filtration chromatography.
