N,N'-(2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl)bis(4-aminobenzamide) (AB-TFMB) has two anilines linked to the trifluoromethylbiphenyl core by two carboxamides.AB-TFMB is used for the synthesis of polyimides with high transparency and low linear coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), making it ideal for flexible displays. The trifluoromethyl substituent hinders intermolecular charge transfer, thus improving transparency, and the linear rigid structure of AB-TFMB achieves a low CTE (4.2 ppm/K). Polyimides based on AB-TFMB are also gas permeable, with oxygen transmission rates of up to 2313 cm3/m2/day at 23 °C and 1.01 bar.
