Apolipoprotein B mRNA editing catalytic polypeptide-like 3B (APOBEC3B) incorporates cytidine (C) to uridine (U) in mRNA and cytidine to thymidine mutations single stranded DNA. It interacts with core proteins of human immunodeficiency virus and hepatitis B virus and alters their genome during reverse transcription process. APOBEC3B is highly expressed in breast, lung, bladder, cervix and lung carcinomas. Uracil lesion generation by APOBEC3B is considered as major contributor of mutations in various cancers.
