BTZO-1 is a suppressor of cardiomyocyte apoptosis presumably by activation of antioxidant response element (ARE)-mediated gene expression. BTZO-1 binds to the macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) th at is required to activate the glutathione S-transferase Ya subunit (GST Ya) gene ARE.
