The Equine IL-1ra (interleukin 1 receptor antagonist) ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of equine IL-1ra in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants and urine.
Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) inhibits the activity of IL-1α and IL-1β by competitively binding to their type I and type II receptors. IL-1RA plays a vital role in inhibition of acute pro-inflammatory response and forbidding chronic inflammation from damaging healthy tissues. Abnormal expression of IL-1RA leads to development of inflammatory or autoimmune related diseases. Allelic polymorphism of IL-1Rα leads to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Therapeutically, IL-1Rα may help in the treatment of sepsis, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma. Overexpression of IL-1Rα is observed in serum of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients.
