Melochia pyramidata yields this pyridine alkaloid. It yields colourless needles when crystallized from EtOH and has a specific rotation of
[α]D + 11.2° (c 0.1, EtOH). The ultraviolet spectrum in EtOH consists of two absorption
maxima at 261 and 265 nm.
