cytochrome P420

Safety Information

Toxicity A denaturation product of cytochrome P450 often produced during the preparation of microsomes. The carbon monoxide difference spectrum has a prominent absorption peak at 420 nm. Although without oxidative activity, cytochrome P420 binds carbon monoxide and many type II ligands. Its formation, which appears to be irreversible, is believed to be due to rupture of a sulfatide bridge between the heme iron and a protein cysteine residue.
