(Z)-2,2-Dimethyl-4-((octadec-9-en-1-yloxy)methyl)-1,3-dioxolane is an intermediate in the synthesis of Glycerol 1-oleyl ether (G598710), a surfactant that forms a micellar solution as well as hexagonal liquid crystal phase in solution. It can also be used as a host to grow membrane proteins.
