Chlorpromazine N-Oxide is a metabolite of Chlorpromazine. Chlorpromazine exhibits antiadrenergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, and antihistaminergic properties, and commonly used to treat schizophrenia.
When female rats are administered chlorpromazine N-
oxide orally, the metabolites identified in both urine
and feces are chlorpromazine, 7-
hydroxychlorpromazine, chlorpromazine sulfoxide, N-
desmethylchlorpromazine and N-
desmethylchlorpromazine sulfoxide. Chlorpromazine
N-oxide and any metabolite that retains the intact N-
oxide function, such as chlorpromazine N,S-dioxide,
cannot be identified in any of the extracts.
