USE
sodium sesquicarbonate: A whitecrystalline hydrated double salt,Na<sub>2</sub>CO<sub>3</sub>.NaHCO<sub>3</sub>.2H<sub>2</sub>O, soluble inwater but less alkaline than sodiumcarbonate; r.d. 2.12; decomposes onheating. It may be prepared by crystallizingequimolar quantities of theconstituent materials; it also occursnaturally as trona and in SearlesLake brines. It is widely used as adetergent and soap builder and,because of its mild alkaline properties,as a water-softening agent andbath-salt base.
