Sudan Orange G (2,4-Dihydroxyazobenzene) is useful for staining triglycerides in animal tissues (frozen sections). Sudan dyes are a group of lipid soluble solvent dyes often called lysochromes, in structural classification they are diazo dyes. With the use of certain solvents, may also be used to stain some protein bound lipids in paraffin sections. The enzymatic oxidation of Sudan Orange G has been studied and inhibitory effects on the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, shows that the enzymatic bioremediation process reduces the toxicity of Sudan Orange G by 3-fold. In polymer studies, Sudan Orange G has been used to probe non-specific interactions.
